We are Belfast City’s first charitable organisation. The Society was founded by a group of leading philanthropists in 1752 to build a Poor House and Infirmary for the most vulnerable citizens of Belfast.

Today the Belfast Charitable Society remains true to its mission and is an important influence in Belfast. It is proud of its ongoing philanthropic work. Clifton House is the home of Belfast Charitable Society and the Mary Ann McCracken Foundation.
